How to Convert PPB to PPM

PPB (parts per billion) and PPM (parts per million) are both units used to measure the concentration of substances in air, water, soil, etc. These are dimensionless ratios used to express very dilute concentrations.

  • 1 PPM means 1 part of a substance in 1 million parts of the total.
  • 1 PPB means 1 part of a substance in 1 billion parts of the total.

Since 1 million is 1,000 times smaller than 1 billion:

Conversion Formula:

PPM = PPB / 1000

Example 1:

Convert 4500 ppb to ppm

PPM = 4500 / 1000 = 4.5 ppm

Example 2:

Convert 15000 ppb to ppm

PPM = 15000 / 1000 = 15 ppm

PPB to PPM Conversion Table:
